Last updated: July 2026 – La Isla is the mall everyone actually visits in Cancun, and it barely feels like a mall: it is an open-air village of walkways and canals on the Nichupte Lagoon, with a Ferris wheel, an aquarium, and sunset views between the shops. I have spent more afternoons there than I can count, usually with a camera.

1. Wide variety of stores
Despite offering food and entertainment, for many people, the main draw to visiting La Isla is the shopping.
La Isla offers guests a huge variety of stores. You can find clothes, shoes, jewelry, sunglasses and so much more.
In addition to the stores, there is a pharmacy, tour operators, and banks in case you need any of these services.
2. International and local brands
La Isla has a great mix of international brands across every price level, and the luxury wing has quietly become one of the most serious designer lineups in Mexico outside Mexico City.
On the everyday side you’ll find Zara, H&M, Massimo Dutti, Bershka, Pull & Bear, Stradivarius, Abercrombie & Fitch, American Eagle, Tommy Hilfiger, and Guess, plus Nike, Adidas, Lululemon, Vans, and Birkenstock for sportswear, and Mexican beachwear brands like Zingara and Kaana Swimwear.
On the luxury side, the lineup now includes Louis Vuitton, Chanel, Dior, Gucci, Prada, Balenciaga, Fendi, Tiffany & Co., Bvlgari, and Ultrajewels, which carries Rolex and Cartier. Even if none of it fits your budget, the window shopping along the canals at night is an activity in itself.
3. Cheap finds
It is possible to find some great deals at La Isla.
Compared to some other countries, you will be able to find cheaper prices. To get the best deals, make sure to take your time shopping around and have a good idea of what the exchange rate is.
4. Amazing foods and restaurants
Either arrive hungry or shop until you are, because the restaurant row along the lagoon is half the reason to come, especially at sunset when the water and the Sky Wheel light up.
For a proper dinner, the lineup is strong: Mochomos (Sonoran steaks and seafood, currently the hardest table to get), Cenacolo with its handmade pasta rolled in front of you, Cambalache for Argentine cuts, Sonora Grill, Kai, and Elefanthai if you want Thai with a view. My tip: book ahead for any of these in high season, and ask for a lagoon-side table. My all-time favorite is Thai, not only for the delicious food but also for the settings, as the tables are scattered around the Palafitos over the lagoon.
For something casual, there’s La Parrilla for reliable Mexican classics, Los Chachalacos, Johnny Rockets, Hooters, and Fat Tuesday for the party crowd. And between shops, the canals are lined with coffee and dessert stops: Starbucks, Häagen-Dazs, Amorino, Aldo’s Gelato, and a crepes stand that always has a line for a reason.

5. Local souvenirs
La Isla can be your one-stop shopping destination for all your vacation needs- including souvenirs. Tucked between the large, international stores, you will find souvenir shops.
6. Entertainment & Attractions
There are plenty of fun things to do at La Isla even if you do not want to shop.
The entire shopping center is beautiful- make sure to take your camera with you to snap pictures while you stroll.
Make sure to walk by the large water fountain!
The Sky Wheel is a large Ferris Wheel that will take you up in the air, giving you amazing views of the turquoise water and hotel zone below.
La Isla also has a Ripley’s Mirror Maze, Kid’s Paradise, movie theatre, and tequila museum.
There is also an Interactive Aquarium Museum and the Cancun Wax Museum to check out.
Tip: La Isla is a great spot to spend a rainy day in Cancun if you have any bad weather days!
There is also a proper cinema, the Cinemex Platino, with reclining seats and food service at your seat, which is the best rainy-day backup plan in the Hotel Zone. And if you feel lucky, the Macao Sport Bets & Casino is inside the mall too, one of the few casinos in the Hotel Zone.
For live events, check what’s on at Arena Cancún, the entertainment venue on the upper level: concerts and shows land there regularly, and it turns a shopping evening into a night out.
About the Interactive Aquarium (and why I don’t promote it)
You’ll see the Interactive Aquarium advertised all over La Isla, and I mention it only because you will walk past it, not because I recommend it. I don’t support aquariums, here or anywhere: fish belong in the ocean, not in a box, and this one also sells dolphin swim programs, which I feel even more strongly about. Here’s the thing: in Cancun you don’t need a tank. The real aquarium is a 20-minute boat ride away. Snorkeling at Punta Nizuc or over the sculptures of the underwater museum (MUSA) shows you more marine life, in its home, for about the same money. How to get to La Isla Cancún shopping village?
It is easy to get to La Isla Cancun shopping village from all over the hotel zone or downtown Cancun. Here are the different ways to get there:
✔️ Walking
La Isla shopping center is in the middle of the Cancun hotel zone, so you might be able to walk there.
Depending on where your hotel is, or if you are doing an excursion before going there, you might be within a short walk of the shopping center.
The entire hotel zone uses kilometer markings as part of the address, so you can easily see how long your walk will be.
✔️ Take a Bus/Taxi
If you are too far away from the shopping center to walk, you can use the public buses or a taxi to get to La Isla.
The R1 and R2 buses run the length of the hotel zone.
Since the hotel zone is just one long boulevard, it is easy to hop on and off the public bus without worrying about getting lost!
The public buses are affordable and run constantly all day long. They start in downtown Cancun, so if you are staying there, it is still easy to get to the shopping center.
If you do not want to use a public bus, you can take a taxi. It is easy to flag a taxi from anywhere in the hotel zone.
Taxis in Cancun do not have meters, there are set rates depending on the distance you travel.
Always make sure to agree on the price with the taxi driver before getting into the taxi. This prevents corrupt taxi drivers from trying to overcharge you after giving you a ride.
✔️ Rent a car/drive
If you already have a rental car in Cancun, it is easy to drive to La Isla Cancun shopping village. There is a parking lot with plenty of parking available, too.
With so many affordable ways to get to the shopping center, it is not worth renting a car just to go there. But if you already have one, it is easy to drive there.

If you have any bad weather while in Cancun, Plaza La Isla Cancun is a great spot to spend the day.
In addition to the wide variety of shops, there are plenty of fun activities for the whole family.
If you love to shop and are planning to spend part of your Cancun vacation checking out the different shopping centers, make sure to leave some space in your suitcase for your purchases!
Most shops accept American dollars, pesos, and debit and credit cards.
Prices will be displayed in pesos in shops. Stores that accept dollars can set their own exchange rate.
Usually, the exchange rate will not be quite as good as at the bank or an exchange booth. To get the most out of your money, carry pesos or consider exchanging. Luckily, there are places to exchange money in the shopping center.
