How to get to Isla Mujeres from Cancun Airport

Getting to Isla Mujeres from Cancun Airport is fairly straightforward. There are plenty of terminals near the airport with ferries leaving for the island.

Among these, Gran Puerto Cancun in Puerto Juarez is the closest to the airport and the most convenient.

From here, you will find a high-speed ferry leaving for Isla Mujeres every half an hour between 5 AM and 8:30 PM.

Other ferry terminals to Isla Mujeres include Transportes Maritima Magana at Puerto Juarez – where you can find a ferry at 11:30 PM and one at 12:30 AM apart from the regular 6:30 AM-8:30 PM schedule – and Naviera Contoy Vehicle Ferry at Punta Sam, which is the only car and truck ferry for Isla Mujeres.

There are different ways to get from Cancun Airport to the Ferry Terminal, but my absolute favorite is the private shuttle. It provides a door-to-door service with a minimum waiting time.

Besides, the driver is bilingual and will take you straight to catch your ferry without any other stops. CLICK HERE TO BOOK IT.

Is Isla Mujeres Safe?

Before you book that plane ticket and choose which of the amazing Isla Mujeres luxury hotels to stay in, it’s important to know: is Isla Mujeres safe?

The answer is yes – thankfully! With very low crime rates – and even those being mostly related to petty theft – the island is one of the safest tourist destinations in Mexico, so you can feel comfortable exploring its vibrant streets by day or night.

The locals are very friendly here, the streets are well-lit at night, and the island also has tourist police patrolling it for added security.

However, it’s still best to follow some basic safety guidelines like sticking to the touristy areas at night, keeping watch over your belongings, and being aware of your surroundings – just like you would do anyplace else in the world.

Best time to visit Isla Mujeres

The best time to visit Isla Mujeres depends on personal preferences and varies from traveler to traveler.

Generally, the best time to visit Isla Mujeres is from December through April for most people because of the flawless weather with lots of sunny days and no rain.

However, it’s the high season, which means the highest prices and crowds as well.

The best time to see whale sharks is between May and September (especially the months of July and August) when hundreds of these gentle giants can be seen in the waters near Isla Mujeres.

And if you want to see the magical sight of baby sea turtles taking their first steps into the sea, August through October is the best time for it.

The hurricane season runs from June to September, with the last two months being the rainiest time of the year.

These aren’t a good time to visit for phenomenal weather, but they’re the best time to visit if you’re looking for the lowest prices, along with deals and discounts, on everything to enjoy a budget vacation in Isla Mujeres.

El Garrafon is a reef park on Isla Mujeres where you can enjoy an array of thrilling activities like zip-lining, snorkeling, and kayaking as well as things like temazcal ceremonies and relaxing in an infinity pool with breathtaking views of cliffs and reefs in front of you.

ViP very worth it.
Had a great time. Separate areas meant never having to worry about finding a table or lounge chair. Staff was fantastic and attentive. We have done the park 5 times at least… but the VIP is worth every penny. Had a great time. And a real bargain for a full day.

Great adventure with kids!
Theo was our guide and we enjoyed his good nature and expertise. He engaged with all of us – including our kids – like a total pro. Our boat captain Jose was likewise skilled. We saw loads of fish, and even a stingray and a turtle. Lunch is the last stop (yummy grilled fish, noodles, rice, and a salad), so eat before you go!

Pepe and crew made it a wonderful experience to share with my teenagers
I was having difficulty relaxing. It was our first dive but I wanted to share the experience with my children. Pepe was very patient and walked me through several times while taking a lesson in the pool. He and the rest of the crew helped me along the way and made sure we had a good time. Thanks for the memories!
