Cancun vs Jamaica – The best time to visit
Best time to visit Cancun
Visiting during the winter months between December and April offers sun-filled days and balmy temperatures.
Those seeking a more active atmosphere filled with festivals and events should plan their trip around Semana Santa (Holy Week) in April, Carnaval in February, Or Christmas and New Year’s, or even spring break time.
Lots of parties and a festive vibe around.
For those who want to take advantage of some great deals, and prefer a more tranquil atmosphere, then the months between June and October (also known as the low season) are often considered to be the best time to book a vacation in Cancun.
During this period, most resorts offer amazing discounts with prices dropping up to 50% compared to their high season rates.
Best time to visit Jamaica
The best time to visit Jamaica is right after Easter, between April and June, just before hurricane season.
During this period, temperatures are still mild but there are still no hurricane threaths. You can still enjoy plenty of sunshine while avoiding overcrowded hotels, besides taking advantage of the low-season discount.
Plus, you’ll have more opportunities to explore local culture by visiting markets or galleries without all the hustle and bustle.
On the other hand, those of you who don’t mind the crowds and higher prices can visit during the months of December and April.
With temperatures hovering around 80-90 degrees Fahrenheit (27-32 degree Celsius), it’s usually warm enough to enjoy the beach without feeling overheated.
Additionally, the high season offers more events and activities than other times of the year, so there’s always something going on during your stay.
Regardless of which time to choose to visit Jamaica keep in mind that you can always find some showers here and there but it will pass quickly unless it’s summer in which case it can last quite a bit.

Cancun vs Jamaica – Renting a car

In Cancun
Renting a car in Cancun can be beneficial for those wishing to explore the city at their own pace. With plenty of attractions in Cancun, having your own form of transportation is ideal if you want to make multiple stops around town without relying on public transportation or taxis.
A car will especially come in handy if you plan on going on day trips. You’ll be able to make your own schedule and stop wherever you like, whenever you like.
For anyone planning on renting a car and taking to the roads of Cancun, there are some important tips to keep in mind during your travels.
First off, you should always make sure that you plan ahead for your trip. Have an idea of where you want to go and travel safely within the speed limit.
As Cancun is a major tourist location, it’s important to stay aware of pedestrians who may not be familiar with traffic laws or could wander into roadways without looking first.
You’ll also want to double-check that you have all necessary documents such as rental papers or proof of insurance when driving in Cancun.
There are several major rental agencies located throughout. These companies offer competitive prices for short-term rentals as well as discounts for long-term leases.
Most of these companies provide 24/7 customer service and allow customers to reserve cars online before arriving in Cancun so they can hit the ground running once they arrive. I always recommend Discover Cars if you don’t have your favorite one yet, you can check them out.
Before booking your trip, search online and reserve your car beforehand so you’ll have it waiting for you when you arrive.
In Jamaica

Whether or not you need a car in Jamaica depends on your travel plans. If you plan to stay in one place, you may not need a car.
However, renting a car can be beneficial if you want to explore the island and see multiple attractions. It is also an inexpensive way to get around and can provide more flexibility in your travel arrangements.
Also, if you want to explore off-the-beaten path locations, or just take your time exploring the island having your own car will come in handy.
You’ll want to familiarize yourself with the local traffic laws before venturing out on your own. Traffic regulations in Jamaica are similar to those of most countries; however, there are some unique aspects that should be taken into account such as driving on the left side of the road, speed limits, and registering vehicles upon arrival.
Always pay attention to road signs and observe traffic signals at all times when driving. Keep in mind that not all roads in Jamaica are well-maintained or have signs posted clearly identifying them – use caution when traveling on these roads as potholes can be difficult to spot in advance!
There are several places where you can rent a car and make sure your vacation is comfortable and stress-free.
For those who don’t want to rent from an international agency, there are plenty of local companies available in Jamaica.
Not only will they offer more affordable rates but also provide personalized service that might not be available at some of the bigger companies.
Whichever option you pick, make sure to read reviews before renting so that you know you’re getting quality service.
Discover Cars works also in Jamaica and I recommend you check them out.

Cancun vs Jamaica – Cost
Cancun cost
Cancun can be a very expensive or a budget destination, depending on how you like to travel.
The exact cost of your trip will depend on how lavish and luxurious you want it to be. A budget vacation could cost anywhere from $700-$1,200 USD per person depending on accommodations and activities (excluding flights).
Mid-range trips could range from $1,300-$2,000 USD per person while luxury packages can get up to around $3,000 or more USD per person.
Keep in mind that you’ll also have to factor in transportation costs such as flights or car rentals if needed.
I always recommend checking on Expedia for flights only or, even more conveniently, packages with flights+hotels.
Check out Cancun packages on Expedia

Jamaica cost
On average, a 7-day vacation in Jamaica can range from $1,500 – $3,000 per person. This includes airfare to get there as well as lodging and food costs.
You can find cheaper deals if you book during the low season or look for package deals with flights and hotels bundled together.
With the right deals, you can easily shave that figure down to around $1,000 per person, as long as you’re okay with giving up some luxuries.
Additionally, if you are traveling with a group of friends or family members consider looking into villas or Airbnb rentals which could save money since it would be more cost-effective than booking multiple hotel rooms.

Cancun vs Jamaica – Safety
Safety in Cancun

A lot of people are worried about safety when it comes to visiting Mexico. The good news is that you don’t need to worry.
There are several reasons why Cancun is safe for tourists.
First, the Mexican government has increased police presence in the area through a dedicated tourism police force.
This specialized unit is responsible for patrolling the area and responding quickly to any incidents reported by tourists.
They also patrol popular tourist spots such as beaches, hotels, and restaurants to help keep everyone safe.
Furthermore, the city has implemented several measures to reduce crime. These include installing surveillance cameras around key areas and publicizing emergency contact information on street signs throughout Cancun so that visitors can call for help if needed.
With these precautions in place, travelers can enjoy their stay in Cancun without worrying about their safety or security.
I’ll still recommend taking some basic precautions, like not leaving your valuables unattended and being aware of your surroundings.
Safety in Jamaica
As tourism is a major source of revenue for the country, the Jamaican government has also taken steps to improve tourists’ safety within the country.
There’s increased police presence in areas that are frequented by tourists. Additionally, they have improved road conditions by providing better lighting and signage in cities like Kingston and Montego Bay.
Tourists should still exercise caution when traveling in Jamaica, however, as petty crimes such as pickpocketing can occur in heavily populated areas in larger cities.
It’s important to remain vigilant and aware of your surroundings at all times while exploring Jamaica’s many attractions.
Neighborhoods to avoid in Kingston: Trench town, Tivoli Gardens, Grants Pen (among others)
Neighborhoods to avoid in Montego Bay: Flankers, Rose Heights, Norwood (among others)
