The best Airbnb in Cancun Downtown

It’s a little of a stretch to define the Cancun Downtown area as it’s huge and diverse. However, here below I have selected the most beautiful Airbnbs that are close to shopping centers or areas of interest and most of all safe in Cancun Downtown.

7. Capacious Studio Perfectly Placed in the Midst of Cancun

📍 Cancun, DownTown · 2 guests · 1 bedroom · 1 bed · 1 bath · ⭐⭐ ·💲💲

AIRBNB PLUS – I have found this amazing apartment for last but I wanted you to see it first before any other places because it’s just phenomenal it has it absolutely all!

As you can see from the picture, it’s been decorated with the most beautiful taste and attentive mind, minimal but elegant and functional at the same time. With unique touches that make this place so special and cozy.

But that’s not all. The location. It’s on a closed road a few steps from the busy Avenida Nader, which is brimming with restaurants and bars.

So you are close to Cancun’s best nightlife (and day) but in a tranquil area. If you want to stay in Down Town Cancun, this would be totally my choice without any hesitation.

8. Pent House Suite, Tours & Massage Experience

📍 Cancun, DownTown · 5 guests · 2 bedrooms · 3 beds · 1 bath · ⭐⭐⭐⭐ ·💲💲💲

This is a very elegant apartment, a little austere for my taste, but new, and sparkling clean, equipped with all the necessary facilities to make your stay ultra-comfortable, including a private swimming pool (private for all the guests of the complex), security and a reception area.

Mind, though it’s located on the 4th floor and no elevator. Just giving you the heads up!

The location is phenomenal, in downtown Cancun but very close to the main malls and to the bus stop to the beach. However, I would always advise getting a car rental to have the freedom to move around, even at night, without having to rely on taxis. (There´s no uber in Cancun).

9. 32 square meters studio inside Cancun’s heart

📍 Cancun, DownTown · 2 guests · 1 bedroom · 1 bed · 1 bath · ⭐⭐⭐ ·💲💲💲

Exquisite studio located in a lovely neighborhood in the heart of Cancun close to Avenida Nader where the best restaurants in Cancun are located. It’s also close to the R1 and R2 bus stop to the stunning Cancun beach and Plaza Las America commercial center.

The apartment is very nicely decorated with modern features, however, keep in mind it’s very tiny, like a hotel room with a small kitchen. The balcony faces a nice public garden and allows lots of light into the lovely space.

The best Airbnb in Cancun Puerto Juarez

Puerto Juarez has been an off-the-beaten-path area of Cancun for a while, just a fishing village with no reasons for tourists to set foot on.

Not that now there is anything fancy about it. On the contrary, the area looks “a little rustic”, I have lived there for a few months.

But there are at least 2 reasons to go, to catch the ferry to Isla Mujeres and to enjoy one of the best fish restaurants in Cancun, Mar Bella.

In Puerto Juarez, you can also find el Meco, one of the two tiny and cute archeological sites in Cancun, and a few nice hotels.

Also, many homes have been turned into Vacation Rentals and here you can find really cute and not-so-expensive Airbnb options. Here below find my favorite Airbnb in Cancun Puerto Juarez.

The spacious apartment offers 3 bedrooms with private bathrooms, decorated with elegant furniture and delicate art pieces. The views over the Caribbean sea are worth the price.

The complex has 24hrs security a restaurant on the premises and a huge pool, besides a private beach. It’s one of the best places to stay in Cancun if you don’t want to be in the Hotel Zone.

Things to do in Cancun

Although Cancun is renowned as a spring breakers destination, the vibrant Mexican Caribbean City is a great beach vacation destination for all sorts of travelers, from family vacations to couples getaways, or solo travelers’ adventures.

Here below I will share some of the top things you can do in Cancun

➡️ Visit the ancient Mayan ruins

Not many people know that Cancun is home to three small archeological sites, among which EL Rey is at easy access being right opposite the famous Playa Delfines. Or there are many mayan ruins tours that you can join to visit the world-famous Chichen Itza, Tulum, or Coba.

If you decide to rent a car, even better, as you will be able to explore further at your own pace and visit even more hidden gems around Cancun.

➡️ Take a dip in the refreshing cenotes

There are many spectacular cenotes near Cancun, hidden in the tropical jungle. Visit one of them is a unique experience that you shouldn’t miss. You can go on your own if you rent a car or you can join organized tours that take you there.

➡️ Go diving

Cancun is one of the premium diving destinations in Mexico with many amazing diving sites both in the sea or the cenotes if you like to try cave diving. Don’t miss the chance to dive in the warm caribbean waters among beautiful coral formations, colorful fishes and relics.

➡️ Explore the Nichupte’ Lagoon

The Nichipte’ Lagoon is a huge body of water that separates the hotel zone from the downtown area. It’s home to various bird species and marine life as well. The best way to appreciate it is by doing kayaking tours either early morning or at sunset or joining a great sunset cruise on a small boat.

➡️ Swim with whale sharks

Available only in the summer from mid-June through August, swimming with these gentle giants is a lifetime experience that anybody who loves wildlife and sealife should have. If you haven’t done it yet, book your tour with this reputable company on VIATOR.

➡️ Enjoy the local food

In Cancun, you will find some of the best restaurants, both Mexican and international. However joining a food tour with a local will let you experience the most hidden food gems in Cancun where the locals actually eat, far from the touristy zones. A great experience to mingle and learn about the Mexican food culture. ► BOOK IT ON VIATOR

Cancun Travel Tips

Now that we got where to stay and what to do in Cancun covered, let’s go over some basic information that you must know before traveling to Cancun.

Don’t drink tap water

In Cancun and all over Mexico in general, tap water is not drinkable. So make sure you carry a portable water bottle with you to refill in restaurants and your hotel. And keep yourself hydrated all the time in this tropical climate.

Click on one of the below water bottles to purchase your favorite one ⤵️

Don’t flaunt your wealth

Among the most important safety tips, you should avoid showing off your personal belonging especially if they are expensive, such as jewelry or high-quality tech stuff. Just be mindful and always try to blend in.

Carry some Mexican Pesos

It’s always a good idea to have Mexican Pesos, which you may be able to exchange in your bank at home.

Some shops accept US dollars but the exchange rate will be extremely disadvantageous for you.

If you don’t manage to get to Cancun with Mexican Pesos you can either withdraw them at the local banks’ ATM or exchange US$ at the banks in the city (never at the airport)!

Keep an open mind

If you have never traveled abroad you may experience a culture shock. Just keep an open mind, if the service is not as fast as you are used to, or you experience some language barrier. Just take it slow and enjoy your vacation.

Use sunscreen

Remember you are in the Tropics, the sun is strong even when it doesn’t feel that way, o it’s cloudy. Always wear good sunscreen and avoid sunburnt which can ruin your entire vacation.

Stay away from the time-share vendors

When you arrive at Cancun Airport, right after you go through customs, on your way out to find your transfer to your hotel you will be overwhelmed by vendors all dressed in beige that will try to offer you “amazing deals” and free stuff. Just avoid them and go out to find your transfer representative.

Dress comfortably

If you are not sure what to pack for Cancun and what to wear, I got you covered. In general, you should dress lightly and comfortably and bring some nice clothes if you think you are going to visit some fancy restaurant or you are in a luxury hotel, where the restaurants may have a dress code.

Start off your vacation in style

When you are on a vacation, the last thing you do when you land at the airport waits forever to get to your hotel.

I believe the best investment you can do to start your vacation on the right foot is to get a private shuttle that gets you straight from the airport to your hotel in no time without having to negotiate the rate or wait for other customers.

I always recommend Cancun Airport transportation services as they are super efficient, professional, and safe and with thousands 4.7 ⭐️-reviews!
